Thank you for your interest in the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine.
As dean of the nation’s 13th-oldest medical school, established in 1828, it’s been an honor and privilege to serve here since July 1, 2006.
The school’s potential is limitless. The past decade has seen real growth in educational, research and clinical initiatives in disease categories affecting every family in Georgia and the United States: cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes/ obesity, infection/inflammation and neurological disease.
Our commitment to the health of Georgia is validated by robust research funding and clinical rankings. We are re-chiseling the face of MCG, Georgia’s health sciences university, into a multi-campus institution of health professions higher education.
Throughout this transformation, we have not lost sight of our primary mission, medical education. I firmly believe that the raison d’etre of an academic health center is to provide students, residents and faculty with a better understanding of the art and science of medicine.
We also celebrate diversity in our student body, by espousing cultural competency and reflecting the many faces of the growing U.S. population in our classes and faculty.

In the final analysis, the MCG School of Medicine is preparing its graduates to provide patient-focused health care for an increasingly aged, chronically sicker and often underserved population.
As our class size, already one of the largest in the country, increases, the MCG School of Medicine welcomes an expanded applicant pool who will join us on the journey into the next era of medical education and health care.
