MCG dental school offers good value, great education, dean says

The Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry chapter of the American Student Dental Association received awards for Ideal Legislative Grassroots Network Chapter and Most Outstanding Fundraising at the association's annual session. "The students' award-winning efforts expose them to the advancements and legislative organizations in dentistry, so they'll be good citizens and leaders in the profession," says School of Dentistry Dean Connie Drisko.

MCG celebrates Family Day Sept. 20

Families and friends of first-year Medical College of Georgia students will get a glimpse of student life at Family Day Saturday, Sept. 20. A reception for the Schools of Allied Health Sciences, Dentistry, Graduate Studies and Nursing will begin at 9 a.m. outside the Student Center. Provost Barry Goldstein will welcome attendees at 10 a.m. in the Natalie and Lansing B. Lee Jr. Auditorium in the MCG AuditoriaCenter. Activities including building tours and presentations from students and faculty will begin at 10:30 a.m. in each of the schools.

Regents authorize purchase of Gilbert Manor for MCG expansion

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted this week to authorize purchase of Gilbert Manor to enable expansion of the Medical College of Georgia.The public housing complex of the Augusta Housing Authority sits on a 15-acre, triangular plot contiguous to MCG and bordered by R.A. Dent Boulevard, Goss Lane and Spellman St. The property will be the future site for a new School of Dentistry facility. Planning also is under way for expansion of School of Medicine facilities at the site and an Education Commons to be shared by the medical and dental schools.
