The MPH Program in Health Informatics

  Full-Time Schedule

The MPH program builds on three core areas of scholarship: public health, health informatics and health administration. The iMPH offers a balanced and thorough curriculum covering knowledge, skills and competencies required for optimal professional performance in public health and health care settings.

Credit Hours

For the MPH degree, a minimum of 48 total semester didactic credit hours, a capstone experience (3 credits) and an internship (2 credits) are required. Students will be encouraged to take additional electives from courses available at MCG to enhance their educational experience.

The MPH Program & Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Eligibility

A unique opportunity to pursue certification as a registered health information administrator is offered to those students interested in the post-baccalaureate certificate program in health information administration. This program requires additional didactic courses. These courses are:

  • Introduction to Health Information Management = 3 hours (Fall)

  • Medical Terminology = 2 hours (Fall)

  • Pathophysiology & Essentials of Pharmacology = 5 (Spring)

  • Health Data Classifications & Coding Systems = 3 (Spring)

  • Procedural Coding & Principles of Reimbursement = 3 (Fall)

  • Anatomy & Physiology, two course sequence with lab required (8 hours); may be taken at any accredited college or university and the credit will be transferred. A grade of C or better is required.

Number of credits = 16
