State Insurance Program
1.0 Purpose
To provide information about the State Insurance Program and guidelines for
filing claims.
2.0 Policy
The State Insurance Program was created by the General Assembly to protect
all of the State's real and personal property, and non-owned property in the
state's care, custody and control, from insurable losses.
Type Coverage
Building and Contents
The Georgia General Assembly has mandated that all State entities must
insure all State buildings and permanently located State contents in the State
Building and Contents Program. All State entities buildings and contents
"replacement cost values" must be reported on the State entity's
Property Register which is updated annually.
Vehicles
Physical Damage is for tagged, on the roadway vehicles and trailers. This
program insures against the risks of physical loss, damage or theft of State
vehicles.
Liability program protects State employees against personal liability for
damages arising out of the operation of a state owned vehicle.
All Risk Certificates
This program is designed to insure unique loss exposures that are not
insurable under the Building and Contents Program such as: Fine Art, Non-State
Owned Property, and Transient State Property.
3.0 Procedure for Filing Claim
Responsibility:
Any Department incurring or discovering a loss of property covered by the
insurance program.
1. Notify the Public Safety Division of the loss and the location of
the damaged property.

2. Investigate cause of the damage and if over $5,000, telephone
preliminary findings and estimate of loss to the Department of Administrative
Services, Property Manager (404-656-3237). If under $5,000, skip to next step.
3. Complete investigation and forward report to the Director
of Materials Management's Office.
Materials Management:
4. Assemble a complete packet for filing a claim. File claim with the State
Insurance Program.
5. Follow-up until reimbursement check has been received and deposited into
appropriate account.
6. Maintain claim history.
