Porubsky Distinguished Professor and Chairman, Department of Otolaryngology
Medical College of Georgia

Dr. Terris was born in New York, and went to college at Cornell University
where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with distinction in biology. From
there he attended the Duke University Medical School, from which he
graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. This was followed by a surgical
internship and then Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery training at
Stanford Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck
Oncologic Surgery at Stanford and then joined their full-time faculty in
July of 1994. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2001,
then became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology/Head
and Neck Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in 2002, where he now
occupies the Porubsky Endowed Professorship.
He is the recipient of several research grants, including an NIH grant
investigating oxygen tension of tumors. He has authored or co-authored over
a dozen book chapters and more than 120 journal articles. He is the member
of numerous medical societies, including the American College of Surgeons,
the Triological Society, the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and
Neck Surgery, the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery and the
American Laryngological Association.
He is Co-Director of the Georgia Thyroid/ Parathyroid Center and the Head
and Neck Comprehensive Tumor Board and has a busy clinical practice as well
as active clinical investigative research. His national activities include
membership on the Committees for Head and Neck Oncology and Telemedicine.
Area of Specialization
Fellowship training in head and neck cancer surgery.
Clinical Practice
Areas of clinical practice include thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He
is a pioneer in minimally invasive neck surgery, and is the first otolaryngologist in the world to investigate robotic surgery in the head and neck.
Research Interests
Minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid
surgery, endoscopic neck surgery, and robotic neck surgery.
