Simple searching of EndNote references in an EndNote library

For example, a colleague saves a MEDLINE search on the placebo effect as an EndNote Library and emails it to you in EndNote format. You import the Library to your workstation, but a few days pass until you can review the references in the Library.

On opening the Library, you want to locate a specific reference your colleague referred to,  but all you can remember about the reference is the phrase "hole in your head." Rather than browse several hundred individual references in a Library, save time and effort by using EndNote's search function to find and retrieve the precise reference needed.

To find a saved EndNote reference in an EndNote Library:

  1. Open EndNote and open the desired EndNote Library (*.enl) to search.
  2. References > Search (search box opens labeled with the EndNote Library name).
  3. Enter search term of search term phrase.
  4. To search the Library widely and simply, select parameters Any Fields, Contains, and Whole Library Selected [Fig.19].
  5. Click Perform Search and view results [Fig.20].
