Placing Material on Electronic Reserves

The Library provides an electronic reserves system to provide access to materials for both our campus and distant MCG students and faculty. The following guidelines and procedures provide efficient access to the materials and ensure that MCG is in copy right compliance.

Copyright Compliance
Faculty must sign the Copyright Compliance Statement for each request indicating that they are complying with copyright laws. Copyright compliance includes but is not limited to:

  • obtaining written permission to use copyrighted material beyond one semester
  • using only a small portion of a journal issue or book
  • allowing only students in your course access to the copyrighted material (via password)

Submitting Requests
Fill out the electronic reserves form.

  • Indicate a unique password for each course
  • Indicate if you are providing the electronic copy or if you want us to provide the electronic copy
  • Indicate if you want your own electronic copy
Submit a signed Copyright Compliance Statement for each course.
Forms will be returned if incomplete

IF YOU PROVIDE THE ELECTRONIC COPY
Acceptable formats include PDF, Word, WordPerfect.
Transfer of the electronic copy to the library is accomplished via email or disk.

IF WE PROVIDE THE ELECTRONIC COPY
Your request will be routed through our document delivery service to obtain an electronic version of your article. The fee is $5.00 per article. Every attempt will be made to obtain a clear copy, perferably in PDF format. Articles that must be scanned may not be as legible.

Time Factors: We will place articles on reserves as quickly as possible, but some steps could require the process to take up to two weeks to be completed.

Student Access to the Material
The course instructor is responsible for distributing the password to the students. Library staff will not be able to give out passwords to sutdents at any time.

Students will find the course materials in the Course Reserves section of GIL@MCG. Materials may be looked up by Instructor, Department, or Course Number.

Removal of Material
The material will be automatically deleted on the designated semester end date.
