Document Delivery (Interlibrary Loan)
Purpose
The Document Delivery
service (formerly known as Interlibrary Loan) provides books, articles, and
other materials not available from our library, and desktop delivery of
articles from our own collection. The service is available to MCG faculty,
staff, students, MCGHI employees and Loansome Doc Participants. The
conditions of this service are set by the Interlibrary Loan Code of the
American Library Association, by the regulations of individual lending
libraries and by Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S. Code).
Procedures
for Using Document Delivery Service
- Register as a McGILL user:
http://mcg.hosts.atlas-sys.com/illiad/illiad.dll.
This one-time registration will retain and populate pertinent fields on
each submitted request.
- Submit requests
electronically while logged into your account.
- Submit requests
electronically while performing
Ovid searches.
- Most articles/documents
will be delivered to the web server to be retrieved by logging into your
account. An automated e-mail will announce the item’s availability for
retrieval.
- Requested original
materials should be picked up at the Library Information Center upon
receipt of notification of its arrival.
Incomplete reference information could slow down or prevent the processing of
the request.
Processing time at lending libraries and their method of delivery, may affect
turn around time.
Return
borrowed items to the Library Information Center immediately upon completion of
their use. They must be returned no later than the posted due date.
Document Delivery
Costs
Books borrowed from
any University System of Georgia library are obtained at no charge for users
with current MCG/MCGHI ID via GILExpress.
Journal
articles are $5.00 for MCG or MCGHI. Others see fee schedule at

Payment
for Document Delivery requests may be made by IDR, check, or cash. Invoices will
be sent monthly.
Guidelines on the Use of Interlibrary Loan Service
- Copyright guidelines allow
the Greenblatt Library to borrow up to 6 articles from the same journal
volume.
- The Library is bound by
any restrictions on borrowing and/or use imposed by the lending library.
- The time allowed by the
lending library is indicated on a slip attached to the front of the book.
The loan period varies; it is commonly two weeks from the date of receipt.
An extension of time should be requested only in extenuating
circumstances, and should be directed to the Document Delivery Office.
- Dissertations are usually
not available for loan and must be purchased by the requestor from
University Microfilms. Order information can be obtained from Dissertation
Abstracts.
- Books from the University
System of Georgia (including Augusta State University) are available for
loan for free to MCG faculty, staff, and students and MCGHI employees by
using the GilExpress feature of the GIL Universal Catalog
https://giluc.usg.edu/. All users
must have a current ID badge.
Fax Service
Fax service is offered for the rapid transmission of either printed or graphic
materials from the Document Delivery Office to other fax reception sites. This
service is available to the MCG faculty, staff and students between the hours of
8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Send a message (1-10 pages) $3.00
Receive a message (1-10 pages) $3.00
Add $1.00 per
page over 10 pages
Transactions sent outside the
continental United States may have a surcharge billed on a cost-recovery
basis.
Payment for FAX transactions can be made by IDR, check or cash.
Hours
The Document Delivery Office is open Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. During weekday
evenings and on weekends assistance is available at the Library
Information Center.
