Making A Difference for our Users
A Commitment to Library Service Outcomes

Goal: Provide Effective and Efficient Information Resources

Library users are easily able to find current books appropriate to their needs on the shelves.
     Method: Maintain bibliographic integrity of the collection through the
     use of standards and technology. Weed the collection of outdated
     materials using usage data. Determine curriculum needs through
     liaison activities.

Library users will receive articles electronically via email, quickly and without a trip to the library.
     Method: Implement desktop delivery of articles

Library users will be able to initiate their own ILL requests and obtain real-time status of their request.
     Method: Implement Voyager ILL Module

Library users will have convenient interactive library web pages with the most current, accurate information available to them.
     Method: Procedures will ensure that updated information is added
     quickly (within 7 days), new information is added quickly (within 14
     days), and broken links are identified and resolved regularly
     (monthly). The Library Web Committee will improve the content and
     navigability of the Library Web pages.

Goal: Increase and Integrate Instruction Within All Curricula

Students will understand, learn and achieve goals and objectives for each library course or course segment
     Method: Library faculty will develop teaching goals and objectives for
     all library courses and will use qualitative teaching methods and
     objective assessment instruments to ensure students are learning.

Students will exhibit improved knowledge and retention through learning and application of research skills within a practical context
     Method: Strengthen discipline / subject liaison program through
     collaborative / team teaching in liaison subject matter areas

Goal: Provide Current Facilities and Technologies to Meet Educational Needs

Library users will be able to access information resources for research and education at the point of need within the library
     Method: Provide a wireless network and ability to checkout laptops
     with wireless cards which can be used throughout the library.

Distance Learners will develop improved knowledge and capabilities in health informatics
     Method: Construct new interactive, technology based library
     education programs to meet needs of distance and onsite learners

Library users will have a comfortable and well-organized environment conducive to learning.
     Method: Monitor and respond to facility needs such as temperature,
     lighting and broken furniture.

Goal: Expand access to Special Collections services and facilities

The MCG community, historical researchers, and donors will be provided a balance between usability and preservation of the collection
     Method: Apply professional preservation and digitization practices to
     the collection and create useful finding aids.

Historical researchers, both local and distant, will have web access to images of the Special Collection instruments, artifacts, photographs and manuscripts on the web.
     Method: Digitize images of Special Collections materials and provide
     a searchable web interface.

The MCG community and beyond will have increased awareness and knowledge of the history of medicine as it applies to the Greenblatt Library, MCG and the local community.
     Method: Tours, exhibits, publications and other methods of
     communication will be created or enhanced. Strong collaborative ties
     will be developed with MCG departments and units, historical and
     medical societies, and other interested individuals.

Goal: Provide library resources ands services to the extended MCG community.

Patients will gain improved access to health based information within the hospital and /or clinics
     Method: Develop kiosk-based means of providing information access
     and delivery to patients & families in hospitals and clinics

Health professionals will be able to gain knowledge of Ovid use while earning CME credits.
     Method: Offer CME classes for Ovid to each of the AHEC Centers.

AHEC preceptors and students will be able to use additional resources available through the Greenblatt Library
     Method: Partner with Greenblatt Library for resource opportunities
     and services through the National Library of Medicine Loansome Doc
     resource sharing program.

AHEC preceptors and students will learn of free and valid resources available to them.
     Method: Offer information about quality health sciences databases
     available to them.

Health professionals in AHEC communities will receive information about events, people, and resources related to the AHEC mission in Georgia.
     Method: Provide web pages for AHEC program office and for
     Foothills, Magnolia and SPCC-Atlanta AHEC Centers.
