Research Interests:
My research concerns signal transduction in two systems: primary cultures of mouse epidermal keratinocytes and bovine adrenal glomerulosa cells. In keratinocytes, I am interested primarily in the role of lipid metabolism, diacylglycerol production and protein kinase C activation in the regulation of growth and differentiation, particularly in response to changes in extracellular calcium concentration and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3.
In the glomerulosa cells, I am investigating the mechanisms underlying time-dependent potentiation, or priming, a type of cellular memory in which a prior exposure to angiotensin II sensitizes glomerulosa cells to respond to a second stimulation with enhanced aldosterone secretion. Phospholipase D-generated diacylglycerol and protein kinase C are implicated in this phenomenon, and we are currently attempting to determine their roles in the generation of time-dependent potentiation.
