Services

Thermal Sensitivity Test

Description: In the thermal sensitivity test the rodent is placed on an apparatus that gradually increases in temperature.  The temperature of the heating surface is elevated by 3OC per minute from a beginning temperature of 42OC to a maximum temperature of 49OC. The time that passes before the animal lifts a hind paw from the surface of the plate is recorded.

Purpose: The speed with which the rodent lifts its hind paw is a measure of supraspinal nociception and is useful in screening potential analgesic drugs.
