The Cell Imaging Core Laboratory is committed to excellence in research and education by providing expert technical assistance and instrumentation to support investigators for basic science and clinical research. The Cell Imaging Core Laboratory also educates graduate students in the basic principles of imaging in cell biology. The core is directed by Dr. Paul McNeil and co-directed by Dr. Katsuya Miyake. Daily operations and maintenance are conducted by Dr. Katsuya Miyake and Mr. Darren Baker.

The Cell Imaging Core Laboratory is located in CB-2309 and has the following research capabilities:

  • Multi Photon Microscopy
  • Confocal Microscopy
  • Digital Light Microscopy
  • Computation
    • Deconvolution (AxioVision from Zeiss)
    • Quantification and NIH Image
    • Ratiometric Analysis (LSM 510 from Zeiss)
    • Image Enhancement (LSM 510 from Zeiss; Volocity from Improvision)
    • 3D Reconstruction (LSM 510 from Zeiss; Volocity from Improvision)

User Consultations
Investigators are encouraged to consult with the director and staff to address technical questions.

User Training
The sophistication of the instrumentation requires that investigators who expect to use the equipment receive training. Additional technical assistance will be available as needed to support use of the instruments.

Hours of Operation
The Cell Imaging Core will be available for use Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and will follow the MCG calendar for holidays. Technical assistance will be limited during scheduled vacation time, in case of illness or other emergencies.

Access on nights/weekends is given only to current users who have completed at least 3 sessions of independent use on the microscope system. Investigators can reserve time for specific instruments.
