Library Resources at  the
Mercer Medical Library  &
Peyton T. Anderson Learning Resource Center

NEWS: MUSM Library & LRC are proud to announce that Jan LaBeause, Library/LRC Director and Library Professor, has received the Medical Library Association's (MLA) 2007 Estelle Brodman award for Academic Medical Librarian of the Year. This national award was formally presented to her at the MLA annual meeting in Philadelphia,   May 2007. This honor follows the Southern Chapter/MLA Academic Medical Librarian of the Year award, given to Jan last October. The Brodman award recognizes Jan's continuing academic excellence, multiple achievements, and outstanding leadership.

The Medical Library & Peyton T. Anderson Learning Resource Center  supports the independent learning activities of Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) students, faculty and residents. In addition, the LRC serves as a unique resource for the Bibb County community.

Collections: the library provides a collection of biomedical books, journals, databases, Internet resources, university publications and various special collections. The LRC provides models, simulators, charts, skeletons, bone boxes, radiograph files, plastinated and other specimens and computer labs. Full borrowing privileges are extended to faculty, staff, students, and residents of MUSM. Community members may use materials only while in the library.

Reference Services: The library provides a variety of database resources as well as specialized reference services.

MedCat Online Catalog: MedCat provides online access to the Medical Library and LRC collections. Books, journals, audiovisuals, government documents, charts, x-rays, and other materials can be located using the online catalog. MedCat can be searched several ways, including subject, keyword, author, title, and journal title. The holdings of GaIN institutional members are also included in MedCat.

GaIN (Georgia Interactive Network for Medical Information): GaIN is a non-profit, electronic health care information network centered at the Mercer University School of Medicine Medical Library. GaIN offers many services to its members, including access to full-text textbooks and journals via MD Consult; evidence-based medicine resources via the Cochrane Library; regularly-updated literature alerts in a variety of specialty areas; and reference and document delivery services.
GaIN is also a partner and collaborator in many statewide educational, health care and information access programs. Services are available to both individuals and organizations.
